One of the most valuable aspects of Norbook is the team of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about young people. Without their commitment, passion and leadership we would not have had the success and support over the last 56 years since the club was opened.
The volunteers that run the youth sessions are as follows
Gavin Evans is a Youth Inclusion Manager for Manchester City Council and used to be the Senior Club Leader. Gavin recruits our volunteers, leads on safeguarding, fundraising and facility hire.
Junior Leader – Neal Valentine is a former member who joined in 2007. He has since become our dedicated junior leader experienced in football, pool dodgeball and is the club’s lead on disabilities.
Gary White – joined in 2009 and has since become the specialist in leading the art and design timetable for the juniors. One of the most popular rooms on any Monday evening Gary has it packed with creativity.
Graham Bowen – another former member who wanted to give something back to the community. Graham has a ruthless left hand in pool and table tennis and leads in the games room challenges on Monday’s.
Donna Rowe – in 2013 Donna began helping with the juniors and enjoys running the canteen, organising baking sessions and assists with the art room.
Senior Leader - Malcolm Beaumont has over 30 years experience working with young people and has an outdoor education background. Malcolm leads on trips and residentials and has a passion for music and performing.
Arrina Grundy – our Assistant Senior Leader has quickly taken on a range of roles from admin, facility hire and fundraising. Arrina enjoys leading cake decorating and art sessions with the seniors.
Kirsty Taylor – Kirsty is a community volunteer with the nearby Bideford Centre who joined the senior team in 2013. Kirsty enjoys running the canteen and has a great rapport with all the young people.
Pauline Brookes – Pauline retired from the Manchester Health Academy but wanted to help local children at Norbrook. Since joining the team Pauline gets stuck in with pool, table tennis and helping with the canteen.
Darren Barratt – Darren is another local lad who moved from the juniors to the senior team in 2014. His experience in table tennis, pool and football make him a great asset to any team and in any competitions that we arrange
Our current team of young leaders for 2014/15 are as follows
Chloe Owen, Ashley Leather, James McConnell, Libby Hayes, Lauren Hampson, Frankie McCabe, Leighton Murray,
Our sincere thanks go to our previous youth leaders, including:
Jordan Jackson, Jordan Rigg, Conor Hevingham, Mitchell Heveingham, Bradley Carter, Luke Da Costa
We would really like more local people to get involved with Norbrook, either through becoming a volunteer or as a committee member. Please contact us if you would like to know more.
